Position Summary

Operates production equipment and executes procedures for chemical manufacturing utilizing various levels of personal protective equipment, which may include full chemical protective suit with respirator, powered air purifying respirator, or supplied air.  Common unit operations include area and equipment cleaning, chemical and powder dispensing, charging, and discharging of solvents from reaction vessels, filters, dryers, or other production equipment.  Common use equipment may include 20L – 400L reactors, drying ovens, filters, pumps, glassware, balances.  Based upon experience, personnel may be utilized in GMP manufacturing space or non-GMP manufacturing space.

Responsibilities will include:

•    Follow Batch Records for manufacturing chemical compound and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). 
•    Make detailed observations and basic data analysis. 
•    Complete all documentation using Good Documentation Practices and a high level of detail. 
•    Clean and maintain manufacturing equipment and facility. 
•    Advise supervisor of factors that may affect quality, accuracy, timeliness, and usefulness of data. 
•    Complete all tasks per GMP quality system SOPs or site procedures. 
•    Troubleshoot experiments with assistance from senior personnel. 
•    Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard laboratory techniques, improve protocols, processes, and equipment. 
•    Comply with all company safety regulations and procedures. 
•    Report non-compliance and may serve as team lead. 
•    With supervisors' guidance, become familiar with literature directly associated with assigned projects and transmit information gathered to other members of the scientific team. 
•    Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.  
•    Receive and carry out general instruction on routine work, detailed instruction on new assignments.  
•    Flexibility with recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm, involving a moderate degree of complexity.  
•    Works on problems where analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors.  
•    Accuracy is required in performing all functions of this position as mistakes in work could cause substantial interpretive errors.  

Required Experience & Knowledge

•    High school diploma or equivalent education.
•    1-2 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing experience is preferred.
•    Previous GMP manufacturing experience is highly preferred.
•    Previous experience with large scale reactors is highly preferred .

Competencies

•    Demonstrated ability to carry out instructions either listed in manufacturing or procedure documentation, or verbal. 
•    General knowledge of hand tools and assembly and handling skills with glass and mechanical equipment. 
•    Troubleshooting within normal protocol parameters. 
•    Demonstrated ability to keep clear and accurate documentation.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

•    Works in a development manufacturing or GMP clean space manufacturing environment
•    Required to lift up to 40 pounds with or without assistance 
•    May be required to stand for long periods of time while performing duties, while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment which can include chemically protective suits and powered air respirators
•    Must be able to work overtime and flexible shifts
•    Must be able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials
•    May work at one or both Actylis sites in Eugene, Oregon 
•    May sit or stand for long periods of time
•    May travel between facilities in Eugene as needed
