Position Summary

This position is open as a Senior I, II, or Principal Scientist depending on experience and expertise of applicant.

The Senior Scientist works independently and in teams to synthesize new materials and develop new synthetic technology. A majority of the research is focused on active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing that allows biopharma clients to bring their discoveries to clinical trial.  
 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Identifies appropriate chemical procedures or procedural modifications to produce new substances or meet project goals. 
  • Independently performs chemical reactions and purifications to produce new substances or gain knowledge about the production of new substances.
  • Independently analyzes reaction mixtures and isolated chemicals using established methods and/or makes appropriate modifications to analytical methods. 
  • Collaborates with junior and senior chemists to interpret data and write reports about the results.
  • Searches literature for R&D information.
  • Provides input on scientific direction of projects.
  • Prepares written project updates and reports for clients.
  • Has excellent time management skills to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Understanding of cGMPs, SOPs and systems applicable to work performed.
  • Performs standard analytical techniques including HPLC, NMR, GC, TLC, MS
  • Manages scientific goals in a team setting to efficiently complete R&D and manufacturing projects.
  • Coordinates with management and Business Development to determine new project safety, scope, and cost

Required Experience & Knowledge

Requirements depend on the level of Senior Scientist.  A, B, or C as described below: 

A)   Minimum B.S. degree in a scientific discipline, Chemistry or Biochemistry with 7 years of applicable laboratory experience, or M.S. degree in a scientific discipline, Chemistry or Biochemistry with 3 years of applicable laboratory experience, or Ph.D. degree in a scientific discipline, Chemistry or Biochemistry with 1 year of applicable laboratory experience.

  • Preferred: B.S. degree with 10 years experience, or M.S. degree with 5 years experience, or Ph.D. with 1 year experience

B)    Minimum B.S. degree in a scientific discipline, Chemistry or Biochemistry with 10 years of applicable laboratory experience, or M.S. degree in a scientific discipline, Chemistry or Biochemistry with 5 years of applicable laboratory experience, or Ph.D. degree in a scientific discipline, Chemistry or Biochemistry with 3 years of applicable laboratory experience

  • Preferred: B.S. degree with 15 years experience, or M.S. degree with 10 years, or Ph.D. With 5 years experience

C)   Minimum of B.S. degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry with 10 years of applicable laboratory experience, or M.S. degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry with 8 years of applicable laboratory experience, or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry with 5 years of applicable experience.

  • Preferred: B.S. degree with 20 years experience, or M.S. degree with 15 years experience, or Ph.D. with 10 years experience
  • Experience with cGMP guidelines for API manufacturing (Phase 1 to commercial manufacturing)
  • Experience with fixed equipment preferred
  • Experience with process hazard evaluation preferred
  • Experience with safe handling of highly potent APIs preferred

 

Physical Demand and Work Environment

  • Works in a laboratory environment
  • Must be able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials
  • May work at one or both Actylis sites in Eugene, Oregon 
  • May sit or stand for long periods of time
  • May lift up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation 
  • May travel between facilities in Eugene as needed
